Lynn Derriman was born into a family peppered with more than it’s fair share of musicians, artists and actors. She went to school and University in Cape Town. She lived and worked in London for 17 years before moving to France permanently. She has been a full-time artist for the last 11 years. Prior to that, she paid the bills by working as an IT Consultant and Software Analyst. She sells her work at shows and from her studio in Mougins. |

My work is about the simple essence of the subject matter. This is primarily expressed through sparse detail, dynamic stroke and exaggerated colour. I work towards a contemplative serenity, by restricting the amount of visual information offered. This approach is supported by a vigorous and physical treatment of surface via intense brushwork, to add raw energy. This minimalist approach, apparently under-finished, is calculated and most deliberate in declaring an aesthetic position. To me the most critical point in the creative process is the one where I consider that the painting is complete, that is, at its most eloquent moment. |
