Yves April was born in Brussels in 1960.
He studied painting under several well-known artists in the South Eastern area of France.
His life-long interest in interiors is evident in his paintings, which are intimate and and inhabited spaces, full of warmth and subtle colour.

Colour combinations and their effect are an important stimulus and often a point of departure for a painting.
In my most recent paintings I have drawn inspiration freely from the great outdoors and nature on one hand, and cosy interiors on the other, feeling equally at ease in both realms.
I favour oil paints and apply them essentially with a knife, sometimes doing a final pass with paintbrushes of varying thicknesses.
